Women Talk Security, Nukes and Democracy

“The right to be free from the threat of nuclear weapons is a key point of intersection with climate change, protecting democratic rights, and a good number of other social justice communities.” --Ploughshares

From May 24-25, 25 female experts across different sectors met to discuss the current state of disarmament and anti-nuclear proliferation at the Pocanticos Center in upstate New York. OSF Director, Sahana Dharmapuri participated in the event, titled “Women Talk Security, Nukes & Democracy.” This convening served as a platform for women-led initiatives to discuss and build on current efforts, like the nuclear weapon ban treaty, and local community work to raise public awareness about the dangers of nuclear weapons. The group identified new actions to work together and support women-led initiatives to eliminate nuclear weapons. Ploughshares aims to amplify women’s voices in national and global efforts to seek saner nuclear policies that are so desperately needed right now.
