Season Two: Seeking Peace

In collaboration with GIWPS and UN Women, we’re excited to announce season 2 of the Seeking Peace podcast!

We are so excited to announce our collaboration with Georgetown University’s Institute for Women, Peace and Security (GIWPS) and the next season of Seeking Peace! It will be a multilingual second season to spotlight women’s fight for peace and justice in their communities, from Afghanistan to Colombia to the United States.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad is featured in the first episode that started the season last week.

Nadia was just 19 years old when ISIS militants carried out a genocide against her Yazidi community in Northern Iraq. Nadia tells listeners about her work with Amal Clooney to bring ISIS to justice in court. She also speaks about her organization, Nadia’s Initiative, which rebuilds what ISIS destroyed in Iraq.

Upcoming episodes feature courageous women and male allies including father of Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai, Ziauddin Yousafzai, co-founder of Black Lives Matter Opal Tometi, Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Denis Mukwege, and celebrity advocate Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.

Seeking Peace is available for free via Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play or GIWPS’ website.

“The heroic women who are bringing justice and peace to their countries deserve a larger audience,” says Ambassador Melanne Verveer, who hosts the podcast. “We hope hearing their inspiring voices through this podcast will inform and involve listeners to take greater steps for peace.”

In addition to high-level interviews, the second season includes reported feature stories from Libya, Colombia, Afghanistan, Yemen, DRC and the United States. The features will also be available in the local language of the country where the episodes are produced to enhance the podcast’s profile as one of very few multilingual productions in the industry, and also extend the power of these women’s stories into their own communities.

“It is one thing to commit to continuing production of a podcast in the midst of this pandemic in a single country. But to do it among six, many of which remain active conflict zones, and in four languages, was a completely different thing. I am so proud of our multilingual, multicultural and international team who worked tirelessly with producers and translators on the ground and our partners at UN Women to bring these stories to life.” said Martina Castro, executive producer of Seeking Peace and founder and CEO of Adonde Media.

Our Secure Future Director, Sahana Dharmapuri said “We want to engage with a wider audience than just policymakers and government officials. Changing the narrative around security to be more in line with what women peacebuilders have been saying for years will improve security outcomes for us all.”

New episodes drop every Wednesday between now and the end of the year. Make sure you subscribe today!
