Rosa Parks and the Women Behind the Civil Rights Movement

Honoring Rosa Parks and the African American women behind the fight to end segregated bussing

While many remember Rosa Parks as the women who catalyzed desegregation protests by boycotting public transportation with discriminatory ordinances in Montgomery, Alabama, she was not the only woman to refuse to give up her seat.   The women and men who successfully ended segregated bussing show us that peacebuilding and progress come from the grassroots efforts of ordinary civilians who identify the need for change—and act on it.
