Exploring the future of AI through a Women, Peace and Security lens.

OSF virtually joined a UN Women regional forum to discuss the opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence in peace and security settings. The conversation emphasized the importance of inclusive technology development to ensure AI supports effective and equitable outcomes.

On May 6, 2026, Our Secure Future (OSF) contributed virtually to a UN Women regional forum in Thailand focused on leveraging artificial intelligence to advance Women, Peace and Security (WPS) in Asia and the Pacific.

OSF Director Sahana Dharmapuri and AI Project Lead Jesper Frant joined the discussion to share insights from OSF’s work at the intersection of AI and peace and security. The conversation underscored a key message: “AI without women is a risk,” particularly as these technologies are increasingly applied in high-stakes contexts such as ceasefire negotiations, refugee protection and efforts to counter violent extremism.

The forum brought together regional stakeholders to explore the opportunities and risks of emerging technologies, highlighting the importance of inclusive approaches to ensure that AI systems support effective and equitable peace and security outcomes.
