On October 24, 1945, the United Nations came into being with the ratification of the United Nations Charter. Since that time, women’s equality has become a priority of the UN, starting with Article 1 of the Charter: “To achieve international co-operation . . . in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion.”
Our Secure Future believes in advancing this goal through the Women, Peace and Security agenda. We are grateful for this charter and so many other UN initiatives to advance the equality of women, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, which was the first formal resolution to move the agenda forward.
Our Secure Future wishes a Happy United Nations Day to all our partners around the world!
