State of Play International Workshop

OSF was invited to participate in an international workshop hosted by Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance.

OSF Director Sahana Dharmapuri and OSF Program Manager Erin Cooper were invited to participate in a workshop titled State of play: taking stock of policy and academic research on women’s meaningful participation in peace operations” hosted by the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).

The workshop aimed to map current knowledge production and inform a policy agenda relevant to Troop and Police Contributing Countries (TPCC) contributing to women’s meaningful participation in peace operations. It brought academic and policy communities of practice together to exchange current research, identify further areas of inquiry, and discuss how to translate recent findings into effective policymaking.

During the session, small group breakout rooms were centered around various topics like Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) within and outside the mission, whether more training (and for whom) is always the answer, and cross-cutting issues to maximize impact. OSF shared our research on Professional Military Education and Mobilizing Male Partners for Women, Peace and Security. Convenings like this strengthen and expand the community of practice to include fresh perspectives, questions, lessons and data on women’s meaningful participation in peace operations.
