In 2014, the United Nations Security Council held an open debate on Women, Peace and Security that focused on the theme of “Displaced Women and Girls: Leaders and Survivors.”  Many members of the NGO Working Group on Women, Peace and Security were there to share their opinions, highlighting the importance of civil society participation in Women, Peace and Security initiatives.  The NGO Working Group partners with women human rights defenders, peacebuilders, and civil society leaders in conflict-affected countries.  It has been active since 2000.
